The Zambezi region has 3 National Parks located along the beautiful Kwando river namely the Bwabwata NP, the Mudumu NP and the Nkasa Ruparah NP. All these parks are about 90 min distance from Katima Mulilo. There are many nice lodges along the Kwando river which also have campsides. Game drives and boats tours can be arranged even for a one-day trip.

In the dry season these parks are populated by elephants particularly along the Kwando River. The Nkasa Rupara NP has the largest buffalo herd in Namibia. A boats tour on the Kwando Rivers offers spectacular wildlife views. Most fascinating are the cruises through herds of hippopotamus who are residing on shallow banks in the river and a passage can be adventurous.

The western part of the Bwabwata National Park is located along the famous Kavango River. Here there is the Buffalo core area along the eastern side of the river and opposite the Mahango core area. Both parks are small but rich of wildlife concentrated at the shores of the river. As the name buffalo core area suggests you can find here large herds of these majestic animals.

Overnighting at one of the many great lodges and visiting these parks is a must and a trip to Botswana to the Tsodilo Hills only 140 km away can also be organized. The Tsodilo hills are an UNESCO world heritage cultural site and display 500 sites of rock paintings from the San people dating back up to 20,000 years.
